Is it legal to collect SW from the ocean?

Legitimate question - I just know that it's illegal to take live rock, beach sand etc.

I have heard that the water that you take straight from the ocean has protein and that it's not good for fish. Don't you need to go to seaview and get it processed so the protein goes away ?

Really?

Cmon man where do you think these fish come from? rolleyes.gif

Read read read.

Its easy to get bitten by the marine bug but it is expensive for livestock and equipment.

If you dont do a marine tank right, you are going to have a bad time. cheers.gif

I really like the tangs, blue chromis, clowns, angelfish and dwarf angelfish and I have researched that they are not too hard to keep although need A LOT of space. Would a 1000 liter tank be possible for a newbie? Please correct me if I'm wrong but if I did go for tangs, clown fish etc. I would have to add the fish over a few years and at first have just live rock and coral for months.

Thanks

Ben

Yeah thanks, I think that could be why my other tank crashed, (adding fish too quickly), and I will keep it very slow and I also found that if you want to add fish of the same family you add them at the same time.

Yer just make sure you do a good long cycle an keep checking the levels, as for gear there is a lot of really good gear out there with a massive $$$$$ attached, you can get some really nice gear for a good price thats just as good. Look at Sicce wave pumps there alot of good reports about them and they are fairly priced for some one wanting good quality on some form of budget.

Try coral beautys they look stunning and tough, maybe yellow tang, mantis shrimp are cool but very leathal if they are not kept well fed. Try the masa site. There is a MASWA meeting sunday if you want to come.
