You got some cool fish in those tanks of yours. I really liked your little tank... awesome. Looking forward to seeing some photos over the next couple of days.

Thanks Paul, really stoked with the sleepy cod. Didn't realise how fat they are. What's a nice display tank size that would do well for the 2 Coal Grunters, Sleepy cod and Neosilurus Ater guys? Was planning on putting everything in the 4x2x2.5 but I figure it will be too small.

I reckon it would be fine for at least a year. The issues that you might have are agro from the coal grunter and grumpiness of the sleepy. My big sleepy was in a 6.5x2x1.5.
I gotta say, I dont see the 2 coal grunters working out, 1 will probably work out. The aggression you have at the moment will just get worse and the little one will die... might as well sell one and get some cash for another fish.
Coals dont get real big but as you know are very active. A big 4 footer would be ok but is bottom of the scale. The sleepy would be ok in the 4 footer too even though they are quite big... like your butis they are sedentary. Your ater doesnt seem to be too hyper so he would be ok too. Just the agro will be a problem but that will be a problem in any size tank that you could reasonably afford. So if it was me id want them in a 6x2x2... bigger if possible. But I wouldnt see a problem keeping them in your current 6 foot tank... if they dont work in that they wont work in a 7 foot tank. Just grow em up together and see how they go. They will most likely learn to get along as they are all very different... consider one of two possible strategies for managing aggression
1. Lots of hidey areas.
2. No where to hide at all.

I like option 2 for big fish... they have bugger all to be territorial about and the tank is easy to keep clean.
Either way make sure you have a spare tank handy incase things get crazy.

I think I'll trade the tanks for a 6x2x2 at some point. - I'm not exactly happy with the width and height of the 6x1.5x1.5 for a display tank. I was a bit doubtful about the 2 Coalies working, I'll let one go soon. Thanks for all the advice

Thought I'd share some photos of some colour morphs of native fish. None of these photos are mine. Barra photos are from https://www.facebook...?type=3. Others are from various forums and websites

I know there over east, and other leusistic traits, but only ever seen plain barras here.

Photos of the Butis Butis and Sleepy Cod. Scats are too quick for a good photo :(

He's now happily eating his share of whitebait and getting really fat when he steals the Butis Butis food.  :)

Can't wait to see some photos, MA look sweet! My Butis eats tons of  food aswell.. But half the time he hangs off a rock which I can barely get food to so the rest of em steal the food.

Great to know they are still around in aquaria.
