My mate has a murray cod he is getting rid of.. so i said i would take it off his hands. I know they get to monstrous sizes... but didnt want it killed or flushed.

anyone had them in aquariums? do they eat stuff... like live fish?

Ive kept a few of these they're awesome fish but I could nt get it to except many if any tankmates the only thing that lived with it was a feather fin catfish only because it had a log for refuge and took a good beating.
It grew to a size where I could feed it full mulies

yes they seem to grow very quick..... i will see how it goes against my jack... who is making my bream look like kittens. He isnt that much bigger than a whole whitebait but he will eat one ahahaha...
Murray Cod vs Mangrove Jack... hopefully they will live together happily if not... then iwill have a murray cod up for grabs

i had my money on the Beefy Jag...boy was i wrong...if i remember correctly, he was left with a massive ring around his face from where the murray had a firm grip of him...

Can the Murray Cod be kept in full salt water? I've read that they've been caught in salt water by fisherman but dunno whether they can sustain long periods. If they can do full salt then I might be able to give him a home in my marine predator tank smile.gif

I've tried crazy combos before, years ago I had a saratoga, manrove jack, murray cod and a barramundi in one 6ft tank didnt go that badly for a while although they were all quite young fish and had their territory established, didn't last forever though after a while they would look at one another as food.

Heres the pic e's talking about this was my last murray.

Pic of the Jag it was the size of the ones that are at vebas in the "big fish" tank

I'd stay clear of the Murray cod, you will have nothing but trouble with it in the confines of an aquarium in later years.
