if you stick a temporary divider in, then you only have to do the side the fish you are after is on.

Yep...gotta do my 6x2x2 this week to get a Maleri Gold and a Elongatis(Mazimbwe) that are both holding. My zebra females go into the trap that I use but the Aulonacara females refuse to go in there when they are holding:wall

But if it's not one thing keeping you busy in the tanks, it's another:cheers :rollin

Hey BengaBoy, where did you get those rocks? Been trying to find some for ages. Also what is a fish trap, I understand the theory but anyone got a pic?

The fish trap I use is a colapsable bait trap, available from most Tackle shops. There is also a trap design in some of Ad Konings' books, and maybe on-line somewhere, that you can make youself.

It's not a bad option but has it's limitations.

Use it as an excuse to gravel vac your tank, and take all the detritus out.

l always set up my tanks so that the rock is toward one end leaving about 1/2 of the tank space open for free swimming. Using a good powerhead this gives my fella's a strong current area to stretch their muscles, which has proven to me to increase growth rate and health.
Anyway back to the topic, l keep a perspex divider ready cut to suit the tank. When feeding it is always dropped into the open end of the tank.
If l need to catch a fish l basicly skip a few feeds to get them hungry so that when food is presented all tank residents readilly head to the 1 end and l quickly drop the divider trapping the fish in open water. In goes the net and you have the 1 ya want.
Has worked 4 me so far, but would be obviously a bit tricky with shorter tanks. (l do that in my 6footer)

Well yes catching a fish is really annoying even more annoying in a heavily planted tank. However i get very annoyed when the fish is basically home and dry and some how it finds away to escape ;\

I pulled out one of my large pieces of wood once, walked out of the room and came back in a few minutes later to find one of my fish flapping around on the floor! I assume he was hiding in the wood when I took it out...

in my breeding tanks,i just have a couple of rocks, and lots of pvc pipe bits, this gives the fish lots of hidey holes, while not only being easy to move, but usually the fish hide in them when you are catching,so you just pick up the fish & the pipe in your net(no stress;) )and if you think the pvc has any effect,i think regular h2o changes will neutralise any ill effects.
