I am looking for a good fish to have in with a 23cm barrmundi and 4x around 20cm black bream?

I have been talking to steve about a arowana but lack of funds kinda blows that out of the water, and i could sell my possessions and rent out my room to back packers to afford a alligator gar but then what would i do with something that big in 1 years time?

Any suggestions would be appreciated. biggrin.gif

1.3 foot so it is kinda small i guess in width. But plenty for room for another i just get sick of seeing alot of empty uninhabited space.

Archers, most species grow around 30cm

the sleepy cod can grow around 45cm

so they grow big enough so that when the bara grows to around 100cm that they won't fit in its mouth laugh.gif

sleepy cods are also native

cheers alec

Barra are not a good fish for a 6 ft tank. As a minimum for an adult you want a 12x6x2.5 (seen as adults can reportedly grow to 2 meters which is about 6ft according to fishbase at http://www.fishbase....ary.php?id=346), so think about saving up for that a tank or a pond that is heated, or get rid of the barra now if you cant provide them with adequate requirements for the duration of their lives, because it is very difficult to get rid of a large fish as not many people can house them. You might also find that the bream will become quite nasty so watch out for that.

We have had the barra since about december last year and athough he has grow we dont try to feed him up to grow, i have been told a goldfish a day will make him huge but we just feed him this frozen food mix and worm and even the tanks yabbie which he decieded was food sad.gif

The bream develop a peaking order so the biggest is the leader, but now that the barra is bigger he is the leader (they adopted him as the commander biggrin.gif)

Many fish grow huge and we are building a aquaponics system right now that will have a HUGE rain water tank just for fish that will connect to the system (full heated of course).

Also if he gets too big before then everyone on the forum is invited to a big barra cook off biggrin.gif it will also be his funeral but i am sure it will be a good one biggrin.gif

Tank raised barra usually taste like mush, their muscles don't develop properly. You will need to throw in a couple big pumps and get him swimming against the current! laugh.gif

OK but what to cook him with? batter, just plain, Herbs? biggrin.gif

and we have the eheim pushing the water to one side of the tank along a horizontal strip, he swims against it and loves it biggrin.gif

If you seen salmon tailed catfish for sale in a shop would you buy it? I wouldnt. We caught these by the hundreds in Kununurra and always through them back as they werent as good as barra.
