are you able to take a pic of the tank the parents are in? And what will you be feeding the little fry?

Hey denlife biggrin.gif

At the moment my tanks are in chaos biggrin.gif

Have just moved the whips into a 2ft tank while my 7ft is being changed around.

The fry are eating small white worms ( i did read what they were awhile ago but have forgotten, i do know they bloom when excess food is fed and are harmless to the fish )

These guys also have a spirulina powder/agar mix with i made into a paste and a blanched lettuce leave as well, so im winging it to see what will work atm biggrin.gif

Cheers biggrin.gif

No sorry,

Microworms are a cultured fry food which i have none of, these occasionally pop up on your front glass as tiny white specks, and when you watch closely the specks move.

Maybe docfish can help me out with what they are biggrin.gif

Cheers

Update biggrin.gif

On my 3rd spawn of these guys now. When they said the fry were difficult to raise they wernt joking 8O

These guys have now spawned twice in my new cat tank with so far losing over 90% of all fry.

They are reluctant to feed and lose the most fry during the second week.

Have tried feeding cucumber, zuccini and a spirluna/agar paste that i made myself from some research ive done.

Next step is i have a 3 tier 2x18x18 setup in the works and will try overgrowing one of these tanks with algae before putting the fry in there and still have a few more suggestions from other hobbiest`s to try.

Anyway i definately got 1 for the BAP biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Cheers biggrin.gif

One thing I've tried with catfish fry reluctant to feed is blanched lettuce leaves. Just dip into boiling water briefly to soften it up a little. You'd need to remove the lettuce before it becomes too mushy but have a big enough piece so that all the fry can find it easily.

You can also try what the discus people do to artificially raise fry. I've done it before.. it's a mix incorporating spirulina powder and some other stuff... wipe it onto something solid and smooth in a thin layer and let it dry out a little... Place the object in and they will graze.. Having the fry in a fry saver to limit where they can go will help them find the food also, again my experience with discus fry so may not help at all lol... The paste recipe can be easily googled as I can't quite remember what was in it besides the spirulina powder...

To be successful you basically need to have food available to them at all times without fouling the water. The balance is the difficult part.. and of course finding something they will eat in the first place. Best I guess would be some sort of algal culture on rocks you place outside.. but i find that difficult to do consistently..

Might be a couple of things to try anyway - but I must stress I've never raised whiptail fry before.

Thanks mtchye biggrin.gif

They are spawning frequently atm so it allows me to keep experimenting, and all help is appreciated.
The spirulina/agar mix is good but fouls very quickly, i have tried blanched lettuce and spinache leaves also with mixed success.

Will keep ya`s posted biggrin.gif
