Without having any cory knowledge, is there any risk of them crossbreeding when keeping diff types in the same tank?

Good question Brad biggrin.gif

Ive just spent time looking into this myself and have been told from people much more experienced than me with Cory`s that as long as you keep Cory`s in sufficient numbers ie 6 or more that there is no problem with crossbreeding.

These are the Corydoras species we have.

Albino x 3, Peppered x 3 Bronze x 3 in Community Tank.

All those below are in species breeding set-ups.

Panda x 6 - breeding & fry
Sterbai x 6
Venezuelanus x 5 - breeding
Julii x 6
Green Line x 3
Gold Shoulder x 8 - breeding & Fry
Bronze x 6 - breeding, juvies & fry

Although not a Corydoras we also have Brochis splendens x 6.

We would have more species but Craig has cornered the market. - biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

I kept Julie corys in my pond and they survived winter and stayed fat, active and healthy even down to about 12-15degrees maybe even colder. They were two females so got no fry and I have since given them to a friend. I've heard that alot of them need cold water especially to trigger spawning as many species come from colder forrest streams.

That sounds right Den, from what ive read many Cory species have quite a different tempreture range such as the s.barbatus which need 16c-19c.

Then again awhile ago i had a touch of whitespot when all my cats were still in the 5 ft and the sterbai`s were still spawning at 31c 8O

Im certainly no expert but like you say Craig from what I've read some very rare and expensive corys die if you keep them too warm! and others need warm water, cant make any asumptions with these guys, each species must be dealt with precise research as their required conditions seems highly variable.

Am moving Cory`s around this weekend again so am looking forward to setting all these guys up to be happy and when the more difficult ones spawn for me( fingers crossed ) then i will house them in specific breeding tanks as ive been reading that once you trigger a corydoras species to spawn then they will continue to do so from there on.

So hopefully the pheromones from the sterbai`s and the gold shoulders spawning will trigger the other Cory`s to do so when they are mature enough and will go from there.

Cheers

Update !

Hey Guys biggrin.gif

Thought id share some more additions ive made to my Cory tank the last two weekends biggrin.gif

Corydoras similis ( got 8 of these guys ) They look fantastic ! They remind of a cross between the polystictus and concolor !

Scored 14 more Corydoras concolor today, these are my favourite cory and reach 80mm when mature so will look great when grown out ! I have 17 of these guys now.

A new concolor thats not happy yet ( only got them today ! )

One of my concolors that ive had awhile now

Some concolors and similis together.

I also added 10 Brochis splendens.

Am hoping to get some nice pics soon for the new photo comp on catfish biggrin.gif

Cheers
Craig
