Great looking tank, and a good size too.

Is there a reason you went for canisters and a sump? In comparison to one large sump, that would have eliminated having any hardware in the tank at all, and giving you just about limitless configurations of filter media.

The tank looks great, my only gripe is all the pipe work in the tank with such a nice display tank.

Looking forward to seeing some discus in it.

The tank looks great, my only gripe is all the pipe work in the tank with such a nice display tank.

Seeming I can see a C02 setup I think the plants will certainly hide all the pipework.

Also would two cannisters be easier to clean than a sump, you can carry teh cannisters to the laundry/lawn?

When I get a big tank I would have to make the decision between some canisters and sump, so I am interested in Livingfish78s' reply.

Canisters are a pain to clean, and you are limiting your media choices. The best biological media on the market these days is K media, and it can not be run in canisters. There is absolutely no way in hell that cleaning canisters is easier than a sump. You also have the option in sumps to only clean what needs to be cleaned without disturbing all of your bio media. The benefits of sumps far outweigh canisters. But, this is not a discussion on what is better between the two filtration methods.

Granted the plants will most likely cover at least the majority of the pipe work with time. I just thought it was an odd choice to run a sump AND canisters. In my opinion it would have been beneficial to just run a larger/more substantial sump (for many reasons), especially as it is a 'display' tank.

Like I said. It is a lovely tank.

HI there,

I with the filters , as what i prefered to use and also not hard to clean at all....The sump is used for an over flow from the tank, that has contunies water top from my water storage....

The green tubing is getting replace with clear custom tubing , so that should hide most of it and also the plants ...

I am very happy with the setup ...And its fully automatic.. just need to siphone the poo up and straight into a drainage point in the cabient under the tank.

So pretty happy with it all.

Thanks everyone for your comments...

Discus will start going in today.

Wild Royal blue

Wild Red Cupeira

Wild Heckles

Wild Greens

Red alqueners

Albino Red malboros

Albino golden milleniums

 Rummy nose

 black widow tetras

bristle nose.

I use K1 media in my sump in a seprate compartment,

So i think have it covered.

Thanks again

Nice work. The clear tubing would be a nice touch. Is the clear tubing something that is commercially available from somewhere or something you will be knocking up yourself?

I have developed a bit of a love hate relationship with canister filtration. 20 years of lugging canisters around will do that to you, when I move at the end of the year I will be moving to sump only set ups where ever possible.

How are you moving your K media? I started using it about 6months ago. It is a fine art when it comes to moving it enough for it to be effective, but not too much that you are knocking your beneficial bacteria around too much. I have found that after 6months my media is finally looking 'cycled' with a nice biofilm over it all. Great stuff.

Gorgeous. Wow I love wild Discus... I need to be careful with looking at beautiful setups like this, I'm planning some extensive home renos right now. Hubby thinks it so we can have a bigger living room, its actually so I can have a bigger aquarium... ;)
