G'day

I'm fishing in Thailand at the moment.

Did the predator pond today, wild snakeheads for the next 2 days then a day of barra fishing.

Managed to land; arapaima, alligator gars, wallago and red tailed catfish to name a few.

Caught a couple red tails that were gigantic, really makes me reconsider if they are even an aquarium fish. I know arapaima aren't! The big boy in the water is an estimated 75kg, one of the best fights I've ever experienced.












Heaps more photos to come, I'll do the rest when I get home.

The fish isn't being held out really close to the camera, it's resting on his knee, and he isn't a small guy. It's genuinely a beast! Biggest red tail I've ever seen in person, including public aquariums. I could hear it grunting from a fair distance.

They fight hard too, really dirty fighters head straight for structure, or will have you chasing them down the shoreline.

The pond we fished at only allows you to use 40lb and above to try minimise capture time and reduce stress. Having said that the arapaima took me about 20minutes to land.

I used my van staal vm150 and a samurai rod (25-40lb).

The predator pond is about an hours drive out of Bangkok, the snakeheads is about a 5hr drive.

Yeah dazza I'm pretty chuffed at the minute.

We are into our second day of wild snakehead fishing, it's really hard work physically and mentally. Never experienced anything like it. It isn't the season for them so you need to work hard and be onto it ever minute of the day. Landed 2 yesterday, one at 3kg and one small one, my mate also landed a decent snake.

This morning I caught a nice one at 5kg but I was unfortunately on the boat with just the boatman and not our guide so the picture quality stinks. The boatmen here speak absolutely zero English, adds to the adventure. The areas your casting into makes bream fishing look like child's play!

The snakehead has nothing on the Arapaima size wise but the effort that goes into catching these fish is immense. Running on 4 hours of sleep for the last 3days.




Dave- our guide is the absolute legend of Thailand fishing, BKK guy. I'd hit him up. Even the pond fishing sounds easy in theory but without him I reckon we would have landed squat!

Hitting up the barramundi pond tomorrow for some top water action!
