I find it a bit strange that you are using a broad spectrum antibiotic like metro for very generic symptoms like spitting of food. The spitting of food is also caused by a wide variety of other issues with my experience being flukes as the most likely culprit. Does the fish show any hole in the head? Any white stringy transparent faeces?

Praziquantel is a widely available non-toxic treatment specific to flukes which you coudl try if the fish were showing other symptoms like flicking themselves onto rocks etc...

In addition, there is a trend these days to dose metronidazole more frequently than once a week, and for more than two doses. There is also considerable debate around dose rates and how long the med remains active in the water.

Good luck,

You could even mix it with their food making it heaps more effective

There is also a current theory about metronidazole and water ph... ill have to try adn rack my brain and find out teh relationship...maybe that the more acid the ph the less active the metronidazole?

For the fish that are eating i am feeding them with metro, the ones that arent ive moved them to another tank and dosed the tank.

The fish have not shown any signs of flicking onto rocks, the only thing ive noticed is after feeding them feeders they had become sick. I've now lost a p bass which was the worst affected. i also saw some tranparent poo from him.
i'm pretty confused with info ive read cause alot of the symptoms point to different things like hexamita, internal parasites, worms etc. and says you cant be sure until you cut them open or get a fecal and put it under a microscope.
Also ive got some metro and the people i got it from gave these sort of doses which is also different from what ive read.

METRONIDAZOLE 400MG TABS
4-6 Tabs per 100 grams of food
feed 2 times a day for 12 days

or as bath
2 tabs per 80 litres everyday for 7days
this dose i'm confused with because this dose is alot higher everything ive read though i was told these doses were given by a vet.

cheers for the responses!

Hey MONSTAF1SH and Bengaboy,

Have you guys cure your fish yet? My fish are still flicking against rocks after I used 2 doses total 8 pills of metro from morley vet. I'm now trying a medicine got from Vebas called para-gone made by Aquasonic. Will see if it makes the fish better.

Nah dude my Pbass didnt make it left it a bit too late he was emaciated.
But the rest of my fish started back healthy appettites again.
Flicking off rocks can be a lot of things from ph fluctuations flukes or ich.
You can try broad spectrum meds like Wardleys promethysal which aids bacterial, fungal and parasitic diseases.
Paziquantel is good for worms or flukes if you suspect it. Try to pick the right med for your fish to try avoiding medicating your fish silly.

Good luck.
