Few of my large discus have developed white "pimples" on their heads. It comes and goes. Is this a hormonal thing?

Is this normal? or should treatment be taken?

They're all eating & behaving fine.. Nothing strange

They've been fed on sera flakes, granules & freeze dried black worms.
They're in a 1110L tank
50-60% weekly w/c

Yeap, hole in the head gets pimple like growths on the head which can later erupt making a crater reason being called Hole in the head. I don't know much more but found plenty or articles on google,  however most cases are caused by bad water quality. It may not be HITH, but again it may be. What colour are they?

Thanks for the feedback. I quickly researched and they say to treat for hexamita (using metronidazole) from a vet
The pimples are white in colour

Sounds about right. Leave the rest to the pros, luckily its a disease I haven't dealt with.

Metro (Metronidazole) can be fairly hard to get hold of, DMZ (Dimetridazole) is more commonly available and does the same thing.

I believe this works quite effectively for HITH disease and a cheaper alternative to seeing your Vet ($$$):

A lot of discus keepers keep it on hand.

Do you use Kusuri ???
Whilst Kusuri won't cure the hith,,,, if used on a common basis as per instruction, it could eleviate the reasons that may be causing a secondary disease such as hith.
Hith is a side effect finishing result from a few different occurrences of issues.
Discus are notoriously harder to keep for long term than most other fish.

Seeming you caught this pretty early, you may be in with a chance of cure,,, but act fast.

Kusuri is used by most succeful long term discus keepers.

Yes I use kusuri, but not on a monthly basis. Only when symptoms are showing.

Ironically I used it 3 weeks ago, and then I noticed HITH..

I don't understand why people use it monthly when there are no symptoms.. Wouldn't that help build a resistance to the kusuri drug if the discus are being treated with it monthly?

I'll pop into Aquotix tomorrow as I'll have time then, thanks
