G'day all just wondering what Freshwater Stingrays are being kept in WA, whats being breed and what's for sale.

Interested in a small group as I have a 1m x 1m x 0.4m tank and the gear to set it up.

I know Midland had some but was hoping for a small group. Anyone keeping/breeding in WA or do I need to source from over east?

My other fish will pay for the purchase and I work.

It would seem that the problem isn't the money but finding the fish.

I think you'd be best off trying over east Adam, not too many around in Perth, not publicly anyway. Scubasteve might be able to help you out, he was hunting for some previousely, also check ace forums, ive seen some stingray 'pups' advertised on there not to long ago.

Recently saw this on the ANGFA site
Perhaps you could apply for a collecting permit?
They must be around in northern WA?

I assume he is after P motoro or P leopoldi. Not our whiprays from upnorth. Which are not a true FW species.

But even for motoros a 3' tank is a growout for pups.

Yes thats what I seen them going for, a little over 1K up to about $1700 for Reticulats and Motoros, leopoldi if you can find them? last time I heard a pair went for about $8K over East.

I think the nth whiprays can cope with both. New borns were seen in a river near Katherine..... a long way from the sea.

I'm not really interested in the Rays from Northern Australia that can cope with the range from fresh to salt. They get to big, even for me. The small tank was to get a group of pups to grow up for a year or so. I then have a 4,500l, 3.8m diameter tank to put them in.

The Motoros have a diameter of approx 40cm with some others a little smaller or larger. Ideally I'd be looking for a 2:1 female to male ratio.

in the last two weeks ive been promised 6
2 motoros died, the other was biten and the three retics were kept and sold over east.
a few years ago you could pick em up pretty easy over here(motoros), but now that theres next to no breeders all the qld mob are selling 12cm pups at like two weeks old, and most of the ones that come over here end up with "death curl" and die.
its a quicker sale and less hassel to keep them in the east, so thats what happens
