Hey guys
Any of you out there had any dealings with importing plecos or loaches from Thailand.
If so, how did it go, what was the quality like, is there any saving on buying here in Oz.
Any experiences good or bad would help.

You can import Clown Loach, Pakistani Loach and Dwarf Chain Loach. Only pleco you can import is L168. Need an approved quarantine premise, supply from an approved exporter and pay a whole bunch of fees.
Cheers

hit the nail on the head pacco.....
as far as plecos go - we only have whats already here and bred.... stuff that arrived pre 1984 (i think its 84)
and as far as L168's go i think they send australia all the males anyway

Have also put some thought into this lately if thats the case that you can only import 168s in there would Defiantly have to be some smuggling going on
a lot of stuff come into australia before restrictions and quarantine was established.... these fish and their progeny are pretty much whats here in the way of plecos.... if they arent on the noxious list then they have been tolerated and left in the hobby... some of these are on the grey list also pending further investigation...
lots of variations of the plecos that were here have appeared from time to time through breeding... long finned varieties... albinos , leucistic fish.... and no doubt some hybrids too....
but yes it would be hard to believe that no fish have ever been smuggled into the country after all plenty of seizures of fish have happened so one could assume they didnt catch them all

Especially when Australia has pretty much the most munted aquatic ecosystem on the planet. The good waterways have been ruined by agricultural dependence or stocking for anglers.
Native fish in all southern states are in dire trouble and its got nothing to do with aquarium fish taking over!
well who introduced redfin perch to the southwest? need their nuts cut off !!! they are never going to get rid of them now... and prob only a matter of time till they turn up in the swan and canning river systems if they arent already in there.... done some googling on them and when they lay their eggs they are covered in this bitter gel like coating that nothing eats... hence near on 100% hatch rate.... and after seeing them feed they are more ferocious eater of live food than any cichlid i have seen... put them in the same class as something like a mangrove jack minus the teeth of the jack!
