Took over a setup a while ago while I was living in the same town as my farther in Merredin (since moved down south to Bunbury)
But here is a few images of it all in hopes it might help some one in their adventures.

The pond

The Waterfall This normally flows a lot faster but in this image it turned down as the filter was getting a bit dirty.

They are friendly Walk past the pond and they come.

Closer view of some of them

One of my Favorites

Few pairs for breeding

The black ones are a nice look but hardest to catch tongue.gif

This shows how to pick the female (Fut gut when full of eggs)

And some day old fry

The setup (drawn in paint 3 mins ago)

Glad you like it. only issues I had was cleaning the filter, was just a huge job.
It was about 5 layers of 2in thick bio mat with railway rocks at the bottom about 4" thick.

was about a 4 hour job to do it all properly hosing off all the bio mats and cleaning the settlement chamber of all the sludge and debris build up.
Do this about every month but in the middle of the month I would clean the top layer of mats to remove large algae buildup.

Water changes were hard (not physically) as you wasted a lot of water as when treating the fish with salt to build up salt the water was to salty to wasted the garden with so it went down the sewer. Bye Bye 10,000L+

Basically if I was to build it all and design it I would suggest a lot of time on the filter and how you will clean it.
My filter worked amazingly just hard to clean.

Very Impressive mate!

Why were you treating the water with salt?

I remember when I was about 8 years old I went to someones house in Merredin and they had a massive koi pond too. They also had a garage shed full of fish tanks. That was where my fish hobbie started. I picked out 2 goldfish, a calico bubble eye and a black moor. I've been keeping fish ever since. Don't suppose you or your dad know who the people were? I think the lady that lived there was Jodie from memory?

Cool pond by the way

Awesome pond... i will be setting up a new pond in the coming months... nothing quite as big as that, but I am hoping for about 2-3 thousand litres... depends on how much shovelling I can be bothered doing... smile.gif and where I can source a fibreglass pond that size from. if anyone knows of any fibreglassers - I'd be interested to hear from you...

It raises the metals in the water increasing the slim on the fish so they are a little more protected.

Yes sounds like it would have been the same setup when dad was running the show a lot bigger than pictured with he shed full of tropical fish.

Yeah it would have been Jo or Jodie that you seen. Small world.

Awesome looking setup. Can I ask how big the breeding ponds were and what size the holding pond was roughly. I have a space 40 metres by 10 metres that I want to turn into my koi oasis. Still planning and any help would be great.
