How do you judge a koi fish? What are you looking for?

hi mate ,koi are judged in the following manner,

body shape = 60 percent of score,

skin quality ie; scales all line up nicely and the lustre of the skin and scales , fins proportion to the body ,how clear the sashi and kiwa,,this is the edges around the patterns on the koi,as sharp as possible is more desirable=25 percent of score,

then pattern ,nice pattern even markings over the fish and pattern to have a nice flow over the whole body,eg,,staggered stepping stones as a path in a garden.15 percent.

hope this helps, there is alot more to exp[lain on each answer but this is the basic principles of judging, jumbo class is on size and all other carachteristics mentioned above and all koi over 65 cm. ,class 1=20-35cm,2=35-45cm,3=45-55cm,4=tableshow,jumbo class is 65 and up.

Con.
