So the question. Will drying the soil out in the sun kill the snails? I also want to take the soil out (ada) so I can put the powder stuff they recommend under it. I'm willing to do what it take to make this thing a piece of art.
Also I'm going to be getting discus and I was told that the trick is the filtration for discus. So I set up a sump now I have learnt sumps reduce the co2 levels and I'm loosing heaps of my injected co2 through the sump and am struggling to keep my pH down. So what's the best cannister filter? Avid are selling Aquis 2700 for $300. If that's good??

What kind of snails are we talking about? Some are easier to get rid of than others.

Something along the lines of these http://www.adaaust.c...e_additives.htm
Also I'm not 100% happy on the setup and would like to change it and also there is a weird hair looking algae that's blooming

Pretty much everything eats those. Stick a cichlid in there and they will all go

Also, you really should quarantine plants before adding them to your tank. There is a really good article about snails here.

What powder stuff are you referring to?
I believe the powder he is referring to is the ADA substrate additives, such as Bacter 100, Clear Super, Penac, Iron Bottom, etc. It is powder you put underneath / in between layers of, your substrate.

Yes that's the stuff didn't really know what to call it and didn't want to list all of them and there are also other things if like to put under there.
So will cleaning out my tank and letting the soil dry in the sun kill the snails?
I got all my plants from a Kaine on here and everything was going sweet no snails at all then got the 4 pots from Waneroo way... Possibly a pet store in drovers....
Any ideas on the hair algae?

I can sort out the hair algae, got something for that (pm me for details). But if you want to get rid of large amounts of it, get a tooth brush and then start spinning it around near the hair algae and it will catch it and wind like spaghetti on a fork. Hair algae is very fixable, so dont stress about that. Snails on the other hand can become very frustrating, I usually drop a young loach or two in the tank and let them go to work!
