Mine also became more confident when fed live worms as opposed to the frozen worms or discus pellets they normally receive

Hi everyone, My discus get fed 3 times a day. a varied diet New life pellets, freeze dried worms, frozen brine shrimp and the occassional lot of live worms.
They are very addictive. Whats everyones water change routine like I have found 50% every 4 days is going well but im not trying to breed just have pretty fish to look at smile.gif

Hi Erica biggrin.gif

What are your water conditions ? ph, gh ect ? Im trying out some seachem discus buffer to help soften my water atm and lower my ph but wont really know how well its working until after ive used it for a few weeks.

What kind of freeze dried worms do you use and did it take you long to get them to eat the NLS pellets or did they take straight to them ?

Cheers
Craig

Hi, im not erica (newfish) smile.gif
My PH is at 6, temp is 30, GH i havent checked for a while!!!! i think you can go overboard with the overload of info on the net regarding keeping discus, Im a lazy discus keeper but they are not stunted and are happy in my conditions, water changing is very important but the rest i just make up as i go really!!!!!!!!!(gets ready to duck from discus fanatics telling me off)

Just keep trying is the key for feeding dry foods. the only fussy discus i have is a wild and that is expected.
i feed australian freeze dried black worms and they love them (get them at midland pet and aquarium)

I use acid buffer because i find it more economical tryed discus buffer but you use alot more.

Lilfish, coming from a few years of Discus keeping i really believe you're doing great with your Discus tank. Your PH is pretty much spot on! With PH around 5.8 - 6.2, Discus are quite hardy.. Most Discus become sick or weak when the PH in their tank rises to about 7.2 or more. Also, 28 - 30degs is ideal temperature too! In regards to what you're feeding them, maybe you should feed them bloodworms once a week? Their colours will be much better! But NEVER feed Discus Tubifex worms! smile.gif

In regards to water changes, 1/4 water change every 3 days will be beneficial... Also, you might see them show signs of wanting to spawn! biggrin.gif

Anyways, all the best with Discus keeping! smile.gif

Cheers!
Kevin

Thanks lilfish biggrin.gif

Gee my brains not too good this week blink.gif

When you say your ph is at 6 is it 6 exactly ? ive dropped my ph to 6.8 atm and reduced my gh from 120 to 100.

Thanks for the dried food tip biggrin.gif

How long did it take your discus to settle in fully and stop hiding ?
