Oily Film Layer
11 April 2009 - 11:53 AM
hi all,
i have recently found an oily film starting on the uppermost layer of the water level in my planted tank from feeding the fish (i think).
i know that the oil will restrict oxygen transfer and light emmision to the plants so see this as a bit of an issue.
any suggestions on how to remove this oily layer? thought about an airpump. any other ideas? something i can buy off the shelf?
cheers.

Hi All
I was having a snoop around my planted tank last night with a torch and noticed little white dots on the underside of my driftwood cave. Well... "her" driftwood cave.
The mother is guarding the cave while daddy is patrolling the perimeter.
There is one other male (clearly sub-dominant) and about 9 other females (all half the size of the dominant female) in there at the moment. Do i need to remove anybody? or will the breeding couple keep the eggs and (hopefully) fry safe?
So exciting!

Hi All
Just got some little Electric Yellows from a mate of mine (1.5cm).
I was thinking of putting them in with my Aceii and Cyno. Afra. (~ 6cm).
Will they get eaten? I have seen them snap up some feeder fish and the dominant male Afra has a pretty mean set of teeth.
At the moment they are in a breeding net in the tank so all is good (i hope).
Cheers

Brown Stringy Stuff
28 August 2008 - 04:46 PM
Hi All
Ive got these brown stringy stuff stuck on the leaves of my java fern and other 'larger' plants. They happen to populate all along the edges of the leaf.
Looks like a parasitic plant as they grow in little patches as individual 'plants'.
Dunno what they are, can some1 help please?
Cheers
