Hiya,

Just looking to set up a new aquarium and I saw these 3-d backgrounds at a LFS.

There were foam ones and plastic ones. The pricing was waaaaay different between the two. You could do a tank 4 times over in foam versus the plastic and both were 60x45cm items.

Can anyone relate their experience with either of these backgrounds? Are they any good or should I just stick to the flat roll-out type for the money?

Cheers,

Pieguy

I've recently set a tank up with the foam 3D backgrounds. I think they were about $40 for a 2 x 2 foot square piece. Still expensive, but not compared to the plastic ones that were about $100 for a similar size piece.

I've siliconed them to the interal back wall...they look awesome! They've been in for a week now with no issues. The nitrogen cycle is in its early stages with a few "rubbish" fish in there to give it a kick start. My concerns will be algae growth, how much and how to deal with it once on the foam background.

I guess ill fine out in a month or so!

Cheers.
SHANE.

Hi Shane thanks for the response. Please let me know how things progress. I'm still probably a few weeks away from filling the tank so I'd be interested to hear how the algae goes.

I also have foam background in one of my tanks and I must say haven't had any issues, not even with algae at the moment and the set up has been going for about 12 weeks now.
