i didnt think people were planting Palm trees anymore  - they were popular , what back in the 70's and 80s?

I think they are such an eye sore

A lot of councils have it in by laws you can't plant palms.  A couple years after getting a date palm cut out from our place we still have seedings popping up from the grass.  The up side is if you did like a big ugly palm, you could say it has always been there.

Cichlids and the like aren't really my thing, but man they are cool looking, obviously some sort of tropheous - don't think ive seen these in stores, nice little gems you got there!

Thanks Jules, I don't think they are around in Au too much.

They are tropheus.  Tropheus caramba red bishops.  I think they are a strain that causes a lot of arguments amongst keepers, importers and breeders.  My understanding is that they are line bred mutation which is similar to any specifically line bred species (including my german shepherd).  They are caramba's and are fully pinkish/orange versions of the karamba sp. tropheus.   Maybe they piss people off as they are called red bishops but as my wife and friends said to me are actually just little orange gold fish... ha.  Little orange gold fish would of been a cheaper option.

I ordered them in with the German import from Aquotix and when doing research on them there is issues of dodgy imports of tattooed up albino fish and poor lines.  I'm super happy with our mob.

They are an melanism (means just different pigmentation of the norm) which is kinda like an albanism except they don't have creepy pink eyes.

My understanding is that when collecting wild tropheus they occasionally found the freak mutations of the reds and then inbred them to be a new strain.  I just love their colour and their big dopey eyes :)  They have the crazy puppy dog personality of all of the tropheus with the most distinct cool eyes I've seen due to their coloration.

Some one in Perth ordered in a mob of inbred pure gold Tropheus too, I hope they breed them and sell some to me :)

BTW/

I am quite sensitive about the topic if any one describes them as gold fish.

Awesome looking display! Is that an 8x3x3?

Good eyes :)  Thats it.

Did you guess those dimensions from the photo of Mattia inside the tank.

Looks amazing, great to see such a display in a medical/healthcare environment

We are all surprised at just how much sex goes on with them all though.  Our Sans Spot lost his eye while trying to spawn infront of a bunch of patients who all think its a big vessel of sexual soup.  We're considering having a black plastic wrap to put infront of the tank for the days after a water change so we don't upset the children.

I've kept fish before however never africans.  I may have caught the bug.

When I've kept fish at home I have never really had a lot of time to enjoy them due to work and "life".  This time around I've put a tank in my office (chiropractic/health clinic in canning vale), where I spend most of my time and I can enjoy them the most.  We did this when going through a full refit after going through the change of ownership and the thing I've been surprised at is how much our staff have taken on the fish as their pets and how much our patients love them all.

I'll attach some pictures of the install of the main display tank with predominantly peacocks, the guys from Aquotix did an amazing job and Mattia keeps them all happy for us ever since.

I'm amazed at how quickly they are all growing.

Makes me a little sad to see a tank like this that was a commercially viable asset now moth balled.  It obviously made sense to some one when it was installed whether it was the shop or the distributer.  Does any one know what happened to the live stock in the tank when it was shut down?

I remember a time when every GP and Dentist had a tank in the waiting room to calm and comfort their patients, now its about financial cost and minimising overheads

#350276 Sought After Tropheus?

Posted by chrishaigh82 on 06 March 2016 - 10:13 PM

Our Tropheus duboisi are super well loved in our office (bought from aquatix when we grabbed one of their second hand tanks.  If any one here knows who their original home was let us know :) ).  They are all very healthy and we describe them as being a mix between a puppy and a fish.  They are the most happy fish to see their owners (and we have a Sans Spot with one eye that most of the time gets hand fed who lives in another tank).  I'm not totally sure the Dubois would be the best sellers in a shop as their resulting coloration isn't necessarily as spectacular as say a kiriza.  We love them though.

The only bad point is the Feng Shui of keeping a black fish in your office you should have one bad ass black fish to take the negative energy which plecos well and truely do a job of.  Consequently we have a relative taking the breeding colony and we are awaiting Tropheus caramba red bishop.

Murago or Chimba would be the fish I'd like to see more of floating around to add to our family down the track.

Hopefully the  Tropheus duboisi Maswa dont fade due to the retail market wanting the most bright of the most feng shui  presentation for their tank.  They are a great fish.

#350095 Anyone Getting Fish From Aquotix German Import?

Posted by chrishaigh82 on 29 February 2016 - 09:07 AM

Speaking of...Went to Aquotix yesterday. Apparently the import came in on Friday or something. Wasn't able to view them due to the quarantine rules/regulation but apparently they arrived happy and healthy.

Ha, maybe not actually quarantine regulations, they just know we would all be down there sniffing around to check the new imports out :)

Very nice! Will they be for display or breeding?

They are for display, the auloconara's will add to our clinic tank (lots of peacocks in differing blues and electric yellows so it will be awesome to have some flashes of green and red).

The trophs are just for me :)

Seriously though who can stop the little buggers trying to breed, they are always trying to get a mouth full.  That's how our sans spot lost his eye.

I'm seriously excited for our new fish friends.

We've got a few aulonocara firefish; aulonocara reef and; a mob of tropheus caramba bishops.  If only tropheus were more social or extra tanks were easier to hide around the house.  Would love to of imported a range of tropheus.
