I just put the finishing touches on my first cichlid tank added the black background and couple fake plants and just to be sure took a leaf outta malawimans book and added a sponge filter with Powerheads to clear those dead spots , I'm happy with it what you guys think?? Honestly

Not a bad effort. If I was to make some changes is look at hiding the equipment that's currently visible in the tank for a cleaner look.
