I know this thread hasnt been active for a couple of months but I just read what you have been saying Jeromy and since noone has posted back I thought I would.
I'm interested in how much you actually learned at TAFE about pathogens because you just sound like you haven't put a lot of thought into your great master plan! Pathogens (which are not already present in water) can enter the it in many ways. Bacteria and other microorganisms can enter by direct contact, when you put ur hand in the tank, when u put ur filter back in after cleaning it, just by the contact of the air, the stones u put it, plants, heater etc etc.
I am also unsure if you are the type of person that should be keeping such an amazing creature if you think you can just pluck it out of the wild and put it back when you are sick of it or just dont have the space to keep it!!! Give it some respect. Dogs and humans are smart too but would you ever consider "releasing" a dog or one of us into the 'wild'? I don't think so. People who release animals have been trained and the animals they release are never their PETS, and those animals would have never been born and taken care of by humans.
I really hope you have not decided on keeping such a beautiful animal and maybe you should reconsider, or hopefully by now your thoughts have matured enough to not treat cephalopods (or any other animal!) as an object.
