have moved 600 pavers and am struggling to deicide location now , two possible sites to condsider.

busy fixing Mrs new car at the moment but digging will start this month

pointless taking pic's before i decide the site.

gees steve you used to be cool man, you set the massive challenge for yourself then only do 90% of it.

Just kidding mate I am sure it will be spectacular how ever you do it, and I think a natural look could still be achieved with a window included but its not our pond its yours. All the best and sing out if you need a hand.

Hi Steve, just be aware most Councils treat a pond over 600mm deep as a pool with the equivalent fencing reg's. Might be worth checking with your local? Just a possible heads up.

As or the design, looks great! You can get those below ground filter systems now where the top looks like a fake rock, they've got some considerable capacities available. Also re the viewing window you could always have a few of those kiddy beach buckets that have the clear base available for visitors to use. (Then when they're stooping over looking through the bucket a small bump & in they go!)

Hi Guys,
I built a lined pond around the size of a swimming pool so I thought I might add a couple things in case it helps. Mini excavator. They do the job easily. You have to plan to be able to dig safely though (they tip over and collapse the edges of holes etc) and with mine I dug one end to around 6 feet and the other to 3 feet so that was tricky building ramps etc to get out of each section. If i were doing it again I would just hire the biggest excavator I could fit in the yard (the mini was available to me free tho)

I see you are pretty set on concrete/brick/render and its nice that way. I used a liner on mine though and it cost me about a grand delivered from QLD. The plastic was 15 meters by 10 I recall. Anyway, to make it look natural I dug the lip so that there was a shelf and then ran the liner over it. then back filled with sand into the lip and now grass and bacopa etc grows all round the edge.

My pond has already given me heaps of satisfaction. I may be slightly vindictive tho - I have trouble with couriers sometimes so perhaps that is why the following made my day. A summer or two back the water weed had grown so well that the pond looked like an ultra smooth lawn...enter the courier in a hurry striding across my "lawn"...

To his credit he kept my packages dry. he was in the shallow end so only a few feet deep and most of his shirt was dry as well. The Koi, guppies and mollies seemed unaffected.

Added some pics anyway so you can see how the liner goes- we are adding paving and stuff at the side so it's slightly messy at the moment.

thanks for the info Groo , mate has a 1.3T excavator and thats what im thinking.

the liner idea sounds ok , its the form work i was gonna used brick/cement definately , more thought required
