Hello all,

I'm a new member. I have been keeping livebearers for 2 months and am running out of space for them fast. I am considering giving away those live bearers for something easier to rehome young. I went into Aquotix and was suggested types of Endlers Guppys.

I just wonder what people do with their spare fish. I have advertised on gumtree and quokka with only 4 guppies selling for $2 each. Haven't had any interest in the swordtails or plattys. I know you can give them into many sources which I will have to consider if no-one wants them. I'm advertising baby swordtails (about half the size of neons) for $2 each and tiny plattys for $1 each. Is my pricing wrong?

The fish you are breeding are some of the most common, hence the lack of interest from potential buyers.
Perhaps advertise them as feeders if you really want to sell them or better yet breed something that can at least pay expenses for food etc when sold.
Hope that helps a bit.
Good luck.

Cheers

Hi T1gger. Welcome to PCS.

You might want to compare pricing to other ads on Gumtree.

I've regularly seen (2cm) guppies selling for as little as 50c each and (1-2cm) platies/swordtails for $1.

Last PCS auction the (2.5-5cm) guppies were getting $1 each ($10 for ten etc).

Historically I've sold mine around $1-1.50; or $5 for 6; or even given them away when I've had plague proportions.

As the weather warms up, Swordtail/platy fry in outdoor ponds will survive (and breed) in increasing numbers so demand will be low.

As my outdoor stocks are low at the moment, happy to take some off your hands and provide hollow driftwood in return.
