That black substrate is Eco-Complete = to flourite if not better.
Should be in some lfs soon,A power pack substrate.
But it is pricey, saying that i belive it's worth it,after replanting my plants it took about a 7 -10 days to bounce back to life.
In the normal gravel it took min 3weeks for any growth when replanted.
No need for anything else like latrite or peat.
I'm still waiting for my co2 to come in from punie.

The tank is even better looking in the flesh. The black gravel is very very nice too... Might have to think about setting up a tank with some of it soon!
BTW Ivan I minced up some beefheart just plain and the discus from Rod loved it! Its the first thing they really gorged themselves fat on...

Brett they are beckitti from 2 plants i got about 12 or more.
The lotus was in my 4 fter it took halve the tank.
I have very little to no problem with the large tank compared to 4fter.
Thanks again

Made room for the glosso thanks to locus.

the riccia is going very well and it will look great when the glosso grows in.
I always find photos hard to assess with respect to lay-out. You miss so much of the texture of the leaves which is an important aspect of the contrast between plants, not just the color. Depth is hard to assess as well.
If I had to suggest a change , perhaps something to break up the total green foreground. 8)
Cheers
Brett
ps I do like the color of the substrate, pity you won't be able to see it soon. lol

I Agree you do miss alot.
Good idea breaking the foreground up a little,Might give it alittle depth aswell.
My thinking is let the glosso grow in more then between the riccia and glosso maybe a boarder of some sort ie wood

That tank is coming along really nicely. I agree with Brett about breaking the green sea...perhaps a couple of rocks that are pushed into the gravel so that they just protrude may work??

Makes me want to setup some T5's and go for that riccia lawn look again, but then I remember the wet armpits and weekly pruning haha..
Looking very very nice. By the way the golden melons I got from Rod are starting to change fully yellow now, a very solid nice colour and so healthily growing.
Keep up the good work.
