I mean they seem to be the flavour of the month at LFS this past month or two, I was down at Morley and Rob's today and they seem to be in big demand, so do you guys reckon it is because we can't get imports anymore from Germany ? Or is this just normal way interested go ??

Amercans will always be a fav among the more old skool aquarist. Usually the new hobbyist gets an Oscar or something like that and then moves onto the more colorful Africans.
But if you keep the Americans long enough you will see them change color and become even more cooler than they were when they were young. Amercians have a heap of character and very soon become "pets", Don't get me wrong I love my Africans but always have a soft spot for the brutes.
P.S
I have a breeding Trio of Freddies for sale if anyone is interested
