I had a a powerhead that would give me a zap every now and then, I blamed it on my fluros. Only to find out it was the powerhead when I isolated it in a bucket.

Hi all,

The new power points are in and the electrician (a long time trusted friend) is sure that everything is in order.

The only thing he could think of is we have new carpet made of a synthetic material and in this dry weather it is just static building up as I walk across the room. As it is short, sharp and no tingling continues and it only happens when I put my fingertips in first, he concluded that it is static.

So I can dip in peace.

Thanks for all the concern and particularly offers of help. They are appreciated.

Donna

Why cover-up a potential hazard? A hazard exists for a reason.
stick the earth probe in the water and pull it out a year from now, stick your fingers in the tank and sure enough you have just been belted extremely hard.
If the earth probe was not in the water, your fish would of felt the electricity before you did, and you would of had a sign of problem.
Earth the water, and the only thing you'll do is pass that hazard down to ground, therefore the electricity is going from the water straight to earth and thus the fish will still be alive.

Good idea this probe thing, but not necessoraily the safest thing to do.

Regards
Chris

I've also had a cheap power head give a pretty descent electric shock.

What brands have people had problems with? Mine was a Resun.
