I fit heaps of these. Best is to use black silicone around the edge, apply like a weld- no need to wipe with finger (as bowdy said, you do not want fish behind it). The black is actually less visible as it does not ' glow' in the light.
While silicone is wet i throw heaps of the vebas black or red 2 mm ( not midnight) gravel onto it, then press it in with my fingers. This makes the silicone disappear & seems to strenghten the bond. Lay the gravel on thick so no silicone sticks to you fingers as this is a pain. When dry brush off excess gravel. I have even joined several panels like this for tall tanks & you can hardly see them.

And 3D background in

Got the silicon ready to go

Haven't siliconed the background in yet. Struggling to get the background to stay in upright. Will have to use some g clamps to hold the top of background in. Will eventually get around to sticking the background in.

It would be much easier to lay the tank on its back if at all possible, and silicone the background in with gravity on your side :)

I can't lift the tank as it's too heavy and a PITA being in the corner of the room

Last night I put a line of silicon on the bottom and the top of the background to seal it in.

How long should I wait for the silicon to cure before filling with water?

I use thick bits of foam wedged between the front face onto the background to hold it flat. Sonetimes run one flat on the background, then others to hold this one down to flatten a longer section. If you want to drop in i can show you how.
