Can treat the tank - filters - get new sand - have moved the Cherry Shrimp to another tank - can I net them up and transfere them back or could eggs be floating around in the water - any suggestions - I hate these little buggers and they breed like rabbits - or yeah can I treat the plants or should I start with new ones from a system that is 100% free of them.................cheers mal

I normally shut the air and filter off for a bit then most the snails float to the top due to lack of air and i scoop them out and to the garden they go.
I don't get all the eggs or snails of coarse but keeps then down a lot its been 2 months since iv'e done it last and still going pretty snail free.

I managed to do exactly that.

This has been covered a fair bit I think - I've found prior threads very helpful.

Try searching the forum, there are quite a few good discussions on this.

Cheers

thats about the only real method for 100% success rate.... i find if you boil anything you need to keep for a good 10 mins it cooks the snails into oblivion

cone snails are live bearers - when they have given birth the little ones float around on the water surface for few days before heading down to the bottom... its this period they stick to the hair on your arms and transfer from tank to tank... you wont notice till these snails mature and breed then your infestation starts....

the only problem i see with using a predator approach is the snails will hide in your filter to return another day....

Krystal mentions being able to buy a snail trap from your LFS in this thread you mentioned Dazza. Has anyone tried this?

I made one out of a tupperware container with some holes cut into it and then just put some vegies in there or some normal fish food. Itll only cull of a few though so its not really a solution to the problem.

you'd only have to do it once if it worked pete smile.gif you are right snails dont like salt... but cones shut up tight and wait for the salt level to decline to where they will open up and come out...

I did manually remove all the cone snails that I saw pop up, but after a few months a couple more would appear. I have that API aquarium salt, so I might put some of that in there. Anyone know if my catfish will be ok with the Aquarium Salt? They are fine with the tang buffer I use.

take all fish out as you need a super high level of salt to kill the snails
leave filter running or they will stil live in filter
