Well one example is 'N. Elongatus mpanga'

N? N? Only thing N elongatus could be is Nemadoras elongatus, well from what I can tell. And it's a stinkin catfish, not a blue black striped, yellow tailed cichlid

If someone knows better by all means let me know. My research can be sloppy at times

I work in a couple of pet stores, mainly in the fish section and the biggest thing I'm always asked is,

Now I've just bought my new tank can I take 20 fish home today?

I don't think people understand that a tank is a biological system....

I once got a F1 otter point (rare) and it was labelled as f1 Cichlid, I think it was a bit of a broad name for it! And it was $13.50 I sold it straight away for $60 it was around 13cm!

I got asked by a man what fish I was keeping? I said cichlids, then they said is that freshwater? Yes! He said are they from Africa? Yes (seems like a smart fella) Till he asked why don't you have a nemo? I said because I have freshwater and nemo is saltwater! Then he says no he can't be he is in a freshwater lake in the movie! MEGA-FACEPALM!!! I was going to tell him but I thought he can keep that idea running for a while!

Once at City farmers I was told that silver sharks could go with red empress', found out they didn't when 5 sharks were dead in my tank!

Once saw a guy carry a clown loach into a LFS in a plastic cup! It had a average sized clown loach, the man then found that they don't go well with tap water!

Finally to top it off once I was told any fish will go with any fish as long as they are the same size! Yeah right!

I will have plenty more but that's for another time!

I popped in to a shop today near my local Bunnings and was greeted by a shop full of fish tanks covered in algae and dead fish. When I told the sales assistant at the front of the shop, she said that it wasn't a problem......

When I first started out I had water back flow into an external air pump. Rode the push bike over to fish shop and showed the owner with a guilty look. He took pity on me and said he had seen worse, he got a lot of them where people thought they were meant to work from inside the fish tank....

If this is heading down the "when I first started..." post , I was about 13, picked up a second hand tank and air pump. Filled tank, rocks etc then submerged air pump in tank. Turning it on, it didn't work but made a humming sound (funny that- I had submerged the whole pump under water!), each time I placed my hand in the water, I got a massive shock of electricity. Being 13 and living on a farm with electric fences, I kind of should have realised sooner. I think I electrocuted myself another 4 times before I decided the pump was faulty and this just wasn't right. I never told anyone, even to this day, but once I unscrewed the bottom of the pump, seeing the water inside with the motor, exposed wires and diaphragm, I put two and two together and realised the pump was meant to go on the outside, to pump air into the tank. Lucky I didn't kill myself, but the thought of that story still makes me laugh.
