Has anyone else noticed the popularity of American cichlids lately ??
I mean they seem to be the flavour of the month at LFS this past month or two, I was down at Morley and Rob's today and they seem to be in big demand, so do you guys reckon it is because we can't get imports anymore from Germany ? Or is this just normal way interested go ??

I thought americans were at a bit of a low. Certainly on the forum at least. About 12 months a go everyone was buying and breeding americanos. I reckon there has been a shift to tangs lately. Americans are the only cichlids I have an interest in. Infact im gonna start up an americano tank in the next couple of weeks. Kinda excited.

Well if there's a fad for Americans it isn't because of looming import restrictions. There's a very very limited choice of Americans on the import list. Probably more because the owners of those lfs are passionate about bringing these fish to their customers and the local hobby ;)

Actually I got half a dozen bocourti recently and loving them. What Americans did you notice at the shops?

Amercans will always be a fav among the more old skool aquarist. Usually  the new hobbyist gets an Oscar or something like that and then moves onto the more colorful Africans.

But if you keep the Americans long enough you will see them change color and become even more cooler than they were when they were young. Amercians have a heap of character and very soon become "pets", Don't get me wrong I love my Africans but always have a soft spot for the brutes.

P.S
I have a breeding Trio of Freddies for sale if anyone is interested :)
