Moss Like Stuff Growing In Media And Canister Filter

its similar to that but not the same. Its alsmot like java moss but nowhere near as green. Its firmly attached to everything. I got most of it off the canister filter and left some on the bio balls for now. Its in my cichlid tank which has never had any plants in it before. im wondering if it will boost the filtration process or just cause problems.

These are Bryozoans and because of their appearance are commonly called Moss Animacules, though they are not actually plants. They occur widely in nature, and are common in aquaria, though not often seen in such concentrations. They are harmless, and can be ignored. Some fishes are recorded as browsing on them, though I have personally never seen this behaviour..

As a side note (I apologise as this is not part of your original question) I don't bother with bio balls as media for a canister filter.
