Discus Popeye

any suggestions?

he was fighting with another discus over a female about to spawn and 24hrs later this popped up

Type of fish:discus
Symptoms: pop eye
Other tank mates: community tank
Tank size / capacity:200l
Type of Food fed: crumble, freeze dried bloodworms
Feeding frequency/amount:  twice daily
Substrate:
Type of filtration:dual cannister
Frequency of filter cleans:2x 25% weekly
Frequency and % volume of water changes:
Last water change:3days ago

 

already doing water changes and quality is good

Hi There,

 

Its a bacteria infection, usually starts as cloudy eye and then the eye can pop out.

 

I would do a 35% water change, wipe down all the sides of the tank in side before water change and add some bacteria medication and some Epson salts to the water.

 

I would then repeat again three days later... I wont feed the discus 2 per day and only once for a 5 day period.

+1 Dunno about discus but generally its a condition that will clear up with super clean water. When it doesn't clear up in optimal conditions treatment is needed.

cheers guys, it threw me a bit because hes still using the eye, its not cloudy and while hes not as frisky as usual hes still eating.

water quality has been good and they are laying eggs, so i figure he was pretty happy
