Hi all.

im soon ready to begin stocking the 10x2x2 but i just cant decide on Mbuna or Frontosa.

So please give me your suggestions.

I do like the large slow Frontosa but i also like the active, colorful Mbuna's.

So what are you preferences?

What would you do?

Yeah definitely Frontosa. Slow growing, but I love them. Given its a 10 footer, I would buy mature sized fronts, or you would find they will be hiding all day

I disagree unless your wanting to breed them I'd start with juvies all the fun is raising them and seeing them grow but that's just my opinion ;)

Do both, i have Mbuna's in with Frontosa's (Melanochromis auratus, Labidochromis caeruleus, Pseudotropheus demasoni). You have more options with a larger tank, just put in lots of rock and let them grow up together. Mine have been together for 10 year or more.

So after a trip to Morley aquariums ive decided upon peacocks and haps.....i think..

I like the bright colours and the activity and the range of different species that i can place in the tank.

So........

Which should i get?

I like the dragons blood cichlid, the sulphur heads, dimidichromis, livingstonii, venustus...pretty much anything with colour.

I would also like compressicep and some shell dwellers. Will these be ok togeather?

I also have clown loaches, bristle nose and a big old pleco id like to keep too.

Hows the stocking list looking so far?

I have some ngara flametails from Germany they are almost 4cm should be some of mine at Morley!
I would get front's and cyprichromis still much better than Malawi in my opinion!

I like the Malawi trout and Aristochromis christyi.

Are these safe in a tank with other types too?

I've had breeding colonies of both of those and kept with various types of other fishes successfully.

Rule of thumb is that if other fish will fit (or nearly fit) in the Malawi trout or Malawi hawk's mouth then sooner or later it will end up in there. Their mouths extend quite a ways too so fish nearly as big as them can sometimes be viewed as prey.

They aren't really an aggressive fish though IMO, in the sense that they don't protect a territory like a mbuna would, except when spawning or against rival males - but even then it's not as aggressive as your mbuna. So they can get along quite peacefully with similar sized fishes or ones that don't look appetising.

Get a pup stingray.. They are amazing to watch.. you wont regret it and your tank would be perfect for one or two.

I have 4 of them now and love them...
