I've Got Snails :(

I bought some plants for my tank about two weeks ago, and now I have little snails I know people say they're beneficial, but they're really horrible to look at!
I have read the snail thread and other pages, and everywhere suggests that overfeeding leads to overpopulation, however I'm still cycling my tank so it's not like I can cut down on food. I have also been reading about snail chemicals, and some websites suggested that a lot of them will also damage my plants, which is not what I want.
Basicalllllyyy, I'm just after some ideas or hints that have worked for you, to completely annihilate my little inhabitants, or how to control them and never have my tank overrun!
Thanks

Check out the sticky on snail management in the fish nutrition etc forum. I'd link you but I'm on my phone.

Do you think they look like Malaysian Trumpet Snails? They sound like an absolute nightmare to get rid of.
Jason, did you use zucchini or something different?

Do you know if my betta can eat a snail if I crush it up for him? It seems like something he would like to nibble on.

I forgot to buy a zucchini yesterday so I used my aquarium tongs to pick them up and squash them. I just checked and I can only see two survivors.
Thanks again all

Haha yeah, I've got about 5 that I can see now. Oh well, squashing them is quite therapeutic ;D

that'd be a good assumption..... but i'd still pay the price if you happened to find some!!!
yes sarah mechanical removal is best bet to start with... then use food to bait them also.... you may not completely eradicate them... but with very low numbers you maybe lucky they dont breed and will die out in time.... but keep an eye out for them 24/7
