I've had the following tank mates with my discus with no issues whatsoever, various corys, german blue rams, black neons, cardinal tetras and kulhi loaches. I've been told clowns dont make good tank mates as they keep darting around the tank which discus do not like. never personally tried them though.

Rummy nose are a good fish to have a group of . They are also a good water quality indicator ( their noses are brighter in good water) .. I also had Hoplos in with mine and they got along fine.

I have a school of 12 Rummy Nose Tetra's they are really cool as they are little larger than Neon's. Also I have 10x Neon Tetra's but I find that they're not that hardy and you slowly lose 1 a week...
IMO I think Neons Tetra fish quality in Perth is not that great, however Cardinals do seem better.

The Rummy's are great and seem a much stronger, slightly larger, sturdier fish. They school quite alot and really move around the tank together. They stick mainly on the bottom to mid section of the tank (Near plants).
Thus the Discus get lots of room mid to top.

Everyone calm down.

I will be keeping a close eye on Frank the RTGG's progress as he grows bigger.

I have kept a 30+cm Jardini with small Africans for a fair while with no deaths. Anything is possible when fish are introduced from a young age.

Have to remember these are generally not wild caught fish. They are more often than not bred in captivity and don't always live up to their wild cousins behavioural habits and are also alot more tolerant to things like water parameters.

I have a school of 5 small (~6cm) clowns in my discus aquarium, whether it's the layout of the tank or the nature of the group I have but they rarely leave the bottom of the tank and have not caused any distress to the discus however I'm finding their erratic nature detracts from the peaceful atmosphere of a discus display so I may re-house them for that reason.

Also in the aquarium:

- Neon Tetras (~25)

- Harlequin Rasboras (6)

- Black Neon Tetras (8)

- Glowlight tetras (8)

- Siamese Flying Fox (5)

- Very yellow male guppies (3) *Trial for colour but seems to be working out

- Bristlenose Catfish (3)

- Otocinclus Catfish (3)

- Borneo Sucker (2)

- Black Ghost Knife Fish (1)

- L333 Catfish (1)

- v.small upside down catfish (4)

This is a highly experimental combination however which is currently good but may change as fish mature, I have another large display with identical water parameters in case some inhabitants need re-housing.

I have
Neon tetras
Corys
Bristlenose
L144
Yoyos
Dawarf coral gourami
Femail fighter

All in all a happy tank, the gourami can be a pest at times and the yoyos do an intresting thing with the discus where they swim up and rub up against them(looks like they are cleaning them) the discus look like they even like it
