They are going well, the fry are growing up nicely and the adults are fine too. One thing I love about them is that they are a really peaceful fish, great for community tanks.
Has your boy coloured up fully yet?

Would be keen to see a pic of him to compare with mine!

Good to hear, don't see too many of these around. Good to know a couple people have colonies of these guys so we wont see them vanish.

Yeah the male is quite nice probably about 70% coloured up. I just threw them in the tank quickly this morning had a quick look and left, so keen to get home and see how they are going. The rostartus boy in the tank thought it was his bday, bit confused i think he thought all the ladies were for him! wink.gif

Will whack up some pics in the next week or so as they settle in. Going to start cycling a couple 5x2's i have spare, one for the vc10 colony the other for a colony of spilos. Start pumping a few fry out.

I know a lot depends on the individual fish, but in the pic I showed the whiter female whiped out the other 2...

Really? I have two separate colonies and I have never seen any signs of aggression whatsoever. Goes to show it does depend on the individual smile.gif

I have only had mine for a few days but I have not seen one bit of agro come out of any of them, including the big male who is the largest cichlid in a tank of 100 + cichlids. Cleaned two of the cannisters and the big powerhead/sponge this morning, bit of crap got pumped into the tank so a little on the cloudy side right now, but will get up some pics later today or tomorrow.

On the colour my females are all a light silver colour, similar looking to a female rostratus i'd say.

Cawdor - How are the vc10's going?

Our ducted aircon broke in my house and my tanks soared to about 31 - 32C for a few days, during this time the vc10s went nuts. Had about 6 mouthfuls on the go. 2 held full term, the others all spat/swallowed at some stage. Stripped the two females that held full term and got ~50 from both of them, good size fry too. Mine seem to be a lot happier now they have their own tank.

How are yours doing? The fry from these things are like little machine.

The fry are going great, growing nicely and looking good. Mine haven't spawned since then, maybe their tank is starting to get a bit small for them as they have grown a fair bit, especially the male.

Your experience goes to show that a bit of stress can induce spawning behaviour, congrats on the fry! I hope they are all going well for you. What size tank do you keep yours in?

Yeah, fry are doing great. The large size straight out of the mouth makes them a breeze to raise, haven't lost one yet (touch wood).

Here are a couple crummy pics. One of the boy and a girl and the other a holding female. The boy I wouldn't say is spectacular in 'day to day life' basically a blue face with a bit of colour through his body. When he is showing off though he can look quite spectacular, really darkens up with some nice orange in the fins. Pic is him in normal dress.

Pics were taken when they were in my 8x3 display. Now in a 5x2x2 of their own, seem happier for the most part.

My females are all this silvery colour. None are dark at all. Although they are in a tank with white sand and limestone.

Nice work John, you wont be let down.

Mine are going great, can't believe how big they have gotten. The male and a couple of the bigger girls would be 25cm now. Have some juvies just about ready to go too. I have found that it tends to be when the male is ready to spawn they will go rather than the females. Appears they are always ready to go, just need the male to have a good day and spark up.
