Just got back from holidays (16days) I cam back to find my tank was spotless which is strange because my cousin has never kept fish before, on closer inspection I see that all my fish are near the gravel and my convicts and dwarf gourami has lost all their colours what do u think my cousin has done and what do I need to do to fix it.

Probably hasnt been there in 15 days. I'd water change if you havent yet and maybe feed a little bit of their favourite food just to see how they respond. If they eat, dont worry, if they dont...

I gave them a feed and they went nuts I think she has just not fed them for a week or some thing so the fish just sucked all the algae that they could to eat,

They could be overfed. Definitely test your water.

If it helps when I go on holidays I get those a pile of those little clear coin bags or "Fiddy" bags as some may call them.

I then put the correct amount of food in a bag for each feed.

For whoever is feeding them, all I ask them to do is pour one bag in each tank twice a day, one in morning, one at night.

Makes is easier for non fish literate people :-)

I got up did a water change and fed them and they got all there colour back and r now very active
I don't think she fed them enough so the fish survived by eating all the algae in the tank.

Better that they got under fed than over, under fed the water quality should be pristine. If she over fed them they would probably be dying right now from ammonia poisoning.

Don't forget if the lighting was never switched on the whole time,,, then you come home and switch on for the first time,,,, they sink to the bottom and need time to adjust again.
This will also show fish as temporarily washed out.

I 100% agree, better to be underfed or not at all than overfed.

Something I always stress to my mum or Mrs whenever I am away.

I know the feeling Alex.........

As much as I love being away on holiday, every morning I wake up and think how my precious ones are going

Fish can go months without eating at most.
Just spend the two prior weeks before holiday conditioning them up with extra food (the professional maximum to the limit).
And if your able to (bit hard in the mid summer), bring temp down to 23'c to lower metabolisms,,, if doing the long no food duration.
