Hi all,

I just did some research and found out that Clown Loaches need a 75 gallon tank. First question how much litres is 75 gallons and next I don't think I will be able to put Clown Loaches in my 3 foot tank is this true?

Thanks regards,
Red Empress12

Thoughts on the Clowns.

US gallons or Imperial (as used in Australia).     An Imperial gallon is 4.54lr (75 gal = 340lr).  A US gallon is 3.75lr (75 gal = 284lr).

A 3ft tank is likely to be 3ft x 14in x 18in = 0.9144m x 0.3566m x (you'll likely not fill it all the way? so maybe 15 inches?) 0.381m = .1242 cubic metres = 124lr...

Certainly small for a fish that can grow to some 12-16 inches, likes to be in a group (at least 5) and is often pretty active.

....

Quote from loaches.com:

"Adults will eventually require an aquarium measuring at least 6’ x 2’ x 2’. Even small specimens of this species must initially be housed in an aquarium that is 4ft long as a minimum. Anything smaller can cause these fast-swimming fish to become stunted and stressed."

Maybe pick a smaller loach, all of which like to be kept in groups.  Dwarf chain loaches have a great black and white patterns (as do Yoyo loaches), are great fun to watch and they demolish snails.

As said, clown loaches are relatively slow growing. Buy a few, move them on when to big or by that stage you may have a bigger tank.

Put it this way.

You can put them in your current tank as juveniles. and they will grow slowly and be good for a decent while.

BUT

They will eventually outgrow that tank, and outgrow it in a big way if they they grow healthily. Or be unhealthy stunted by not having the room which is very possible.

Really depends how likely you are to upgrade I think. There's always the selling them option if they get too big I guess too. Usually someone looking to take larger ones.

One of my fave fishies and the ones I look at the most in my tank myself.

People tend to believe the answer which is most convenient for them.

clown loaches are very pretty. slow growing but do get big. even the yoyo loach gets big.
you would be better off housing them in a bigger tank

They do get big but there not a fast growing fish. He would get years of keeping them before they got to big.

It's a public forum!! I felt it very self explanatory so. I think what Alex means is exactly what he said.

What l said and axis said was pretty much the same thing. They grow slow, upgrade or sell them once a decent size..

l wasnt sure you realise this was a public forum bowdy!! ;)
