Hello All,
I just wanted to write a bit of a blog about my fish keeping experiences and I guess how my fy fish keeping has evolved over time. I hope I don't bore anyone and please excuse any spelling mistakes Iam a blue collared worker and hated school! So here goes nothing.
I first ever kept fish when I was 14 which was a half arsed attempted as I was given the tank had no filtration no air so when the fish died I just replaced them. There was no Internet back then and all the fishi kept were gold fish and I loved them. I eventually stop keeping fish and 21 yrs later here Iam keeping fish again.
12 months ago I brought a beautiful 5ft tank of gumtree for a steal and the first fish brought were six small oscars. I got these because I had heard that they were the the meanest fish you could buy! After a lot of reading on the Internet and getting a few green terrors I soon realised that was far from the truth. I kept the oscars for a couple of months and the realised I loved the colour of African cichlids. So I traded the oscars and started to buy Africans. I had 30 Demasoni at first because I loved them and got some Electric yellows for a bit of colour. That was never enough so every time I would go to Morley Aquariums I would buy more fish. Then I started to mix African and Americans because I was obsessed I just wantedeveryfish I saw. Let me get this straight I have no problem with mixing fish as it worked for me.
Then something changed I started to realise what fish I loved the most and wanted to try to create the best environment I could for them. These fish ended up being Festea ans Salvini. I now only have 9 small fish in a 5ft tank and are waiting for them to pairs other will get there own tank. I also keep a Dovii which I have fallen in love with. I over filtrate all my tanks with 2 big filters as I want my fish to have the best water conditions and I also work 6 weeks away at a time so this helps my wife with water changes.
I also wanted to say that I have been absolutely smashed on some forums for mixing fish were I honestly thought what is wrong with these fish keeping people for fairy sake the fish are not bullied and are all happy so please people try to deliver a msg in a positive manner or I believe it just gives the hobby a bad name. I don't mix fish any more not because I have a problem with it but just because I want to get the best out of my favourite fish.
I now have 2 tanks and will set up my third when I get back from work in six weeks and I will most likely put tropheus in it. I also wanted to say a big thank you to Paul from Morley he has been a wealth of knowledge and always given up information freely.
I am always on this forum now and love the PCS as a club and just wish I could be more involved. Even in the last 6 months so many things have improved and people are so friendly. One of the first people to ever contact me was Jason BEard and what a great bloke! Before that I guess I never wanted to ask a question in case some nut was dead against what I was doing with my fish. I would also like to say that AzAquatic has brought a whole new out look to the club and is such a positive person well done mate and hope to meet you and Jason in person one day.
Any way enough of my rambling bullshit but keep up the good work PCS its a great club!
And I have had a few Sunday frothies!
Cheers
Karl

Hey Az
Yeah I tried to find some for a while so was wrapped when Paul said he could get some in. I have traded maybe 50 fish in the last 3 weeks as I just want my salvini and Festea in my big tank so they can reach there full potential faster and healthier.
I also have a Dovii in a single tank on his own. For so long I just loved African but my taste has completely change and I can't get enough of American.
I have just brought another tank so when I get back from overseas I will set it up and maybe put tropheus in it.

Hello All,
Just wanted to let people know I brought some Salvini and Festea from Moreley Aquaruims and the they were great looking juveniles. They also have a leichardti Saratoga. Loving the new fish and I would also like to mention I brought a Parachromis dovii from Aquotix and what a great specimen. Probably my favourite fish at the moment.
Just enjoying watching the Dovii could sit there for hours.
Cheers
