#339991 Type Of Fishes For An Office Display Tank

Posted by extend on 04 June 2015 - 06:02 PM

Depending on where you get discus from, they would do okay with a water change every 2 weeks.

The other thing would be to feed less often, once every 2 days or so to cut down on the nitrate/nitrite and ammonia build up.  I would also use gravel as detritus usually sits on top of the sand, but with gravel it will fall through and become less noticeable and plants tend to like gravel more than sand.

your fish selection looks okay as well

#339845 Whats The Funniest Thing You Have Had Stolen?

Posted by extend on 01 June 2015 - 11:11 AM

My cousins husband is a sparky and was working in a roof space of a house in a new estate.  Heard somebody come into the house but didn't think too much of it.  He had most of his tools and testers at the base of the ladder and they only thing the thief took was his $15 water bottle next to his $500 piece of test equpment.

So here are some photos of the residents of my Tanganyikan bio type tank.  I have also purchased a new camera (canon 7d) and its a fruitful photo taking device that can take really good pictures with minimal amount of light.

The fish are Cyprichromis leptosoma Kigoma (90% positive on the location) gold Alto compressiceps and julidochromis ornatus which I didnt get any photos of yet.

Anyway enjoy :)

thanks

Joel

#332896 What Spawned In Your Tank Today???

Posted by extend on 30 December 2014 - 06:03 PM

My Cyprichromis leptasoma kigoma/moliro? one of the two, spawned today.  They were displaying every now and than and I decided to block out about 1/3 of my led light to darken the tank a little and BAM! They spawned today, only a 1 1/2 days after the lighting change. Coincidence? or can a change in lighting intensity bring this on??

I have heard Calvus and shellies also do not get along?

This is true as calvus will use shells to breed in as well, however I have found, if you have two separate shell groups separated by a visual divide/barrier, like a wall of sorts it will settle most agression and potential preying of fry.  This has worked for me but I had to monitor the situation closely.

Julidochromis would be okay,  just give them their own set of rocks.  They usually won't eat fry from other tank mates and will breed readily. Babies from the first spawn will look after the fry from the next spawn.
