Zambian my ASSSSSSS!!!!!
I have seen these fish and they are just a tad bluer and darker than some other Burundi I have seen...but not the bluest or prettiest Burundi out their by FARRR !!!
I have breed many many Burundi and you will find from time to time get a bluer fish in a lot ...these are just variants of these fish !!!! a so called throwback …?
Similar to when breeding dogs ..Even though mum and dad are the same. In a litter of say 6 dogs its very very hard to get siblings that are identical to the parents …Similar YES identical NO …sometimes completely different..
The best guys at this are the breeders of guppies …they are great at the genetic line breeding of their fish ……
Many many things can play a part in this genetics ..not to mention the other variables like food water chemistry lighting etc etc
Just remember how many blue fronts are coming from the lake ....!!! Many of these are species living as close as a couple of hundred meters away ..Yet showing enough difference for w/sellers to give them a new name and sell them for a higher $$$$$
A good example of this are those (electric greys---electric oranges) that have started to appear ……you can see some of these on threads on this board..
This is just another great example of the diversity in the genetics of cichlids
Etc etc etc I could go on for days on this subject but i'm sure you get the idea !!!
I have asked the question in this shop ...about these said Zaire
When I told the sales person that they were not the real deal ...I got told well that’s what we bought them as????
And I got a funny smirk !!!!mmmmmmmmm love the integrity.
That’s says it all for me !!!!! These so called cichlid experts sell them as such to try and get extra $$$$$ and the funny thing is had they been $100 each I might have believed them ….
This just pissed me off cause the shop has good fish variety and is nice and clean and has good $$$ ....BUT ARE PREPARED TO TRY AND FOOL GOOD PAYING CUSTOMERS BY SELLING THINGS THEY ARE NOT SURE WHAT THEY ARE !!!!
This was not the only X or dubious fish in the shop !!! they had many many X and unidentified fish like the Australian rainbows they sell as X
Funny thing was they were labelled as X the calvus or should I call them compcalvus mmmmm etc etc
Back to the original subject ...
These fronts are NOT ZAIRE if they were
Firstly they would be selling them for more !!!!!! dahhhhhhhhhhh
2nd if they were Zaire then the parents would be easy to tell apart from the norm Burundi AND YOU CAN NOT !!!!
Etc Etc etc etc
So IMO if you want to buy them go for it ..But don't expect to be able to sell them easy ......
And please please don't try to sell them as zaire !!!!!!!

No one said they were Zaire - the shop doesn't even have them labelled as Zaire. What are you talking about!!???
And as far as the electric yellows are concern, Konings himself said that he saw NATURAL morphs of this fish in blue, orange and white. I'm not talking about the sh**y pale yellow ones that appear to be whitish either. The orange in question was thrown from batch of yellow electric yellows.

mrsbey if you go look at photo's of these fish (Zambians) on the net you will see that they are exactly like the ones that wys has posted. the male also has the hump extending across his bump and beautiful blue through the tips of the fins. there is no way (exept dna) that we can tell if these fish are the real deal.
anyway buyers beware of the lokkalikes out there

You know what, who really cares 6 bar, 7 bars whatever, no one is passing off zambian's with and expensive priced attached anyway. It's impossible to know for sure because they've been crossed with burundi's so many times that I'd rather take my chances with lotto than buy anything passed off as zambian. I don't really care if they are crosses or whatever in the end I still love da fronties!!!
It seems this subject has turned a little heated for my liking, can't we just talk about how much we enjoy keeping them rather than dissing fish to fish.

Quote:
my question is have you ever seen anything like it.
My answer is a definite NO
I have no idea what it is and the colour could come from any variety of frontosa that have been brought in over the last 20-30 years. Burundi 6 Bar also has VERY blue fronts yet a Burundi is not a blue fish even though they may look better in blue.
Quote:
It has a massive nuchal hump like a burundi
you mean "like a frontosa" Some of my 7 bars have very big humps for their size - I don't think it's a variant thing.

Gotta love you fronty people. You are like a breed among a breed. I love the passion that fish evoke in people who are serious about them. It is good to see I am not the only one who gets fired up...and it is nice to have a shot from the "Peanut Gallery"
C'mon folks, someone has gone off a bit half cocked(you know who you are MrSeby ). You know what the net and text fights are like and how they get started. Truth is it is only thru this type of dicourse that we warn/educate people about the risk/possibility of actually getting something that is rare and genuine, without getting rauted. But the only other way is thru self education, BTW the net should not be viewed as a "Truthfull" resourse and should be used as a guide only, and at the prices I have seen being asked for around the traps for "Frontosa" are at the edge of my range/space, etc.
So in conclusion; If I was buying serious fish for serious money I would make serious efferts to learn everything I could about the fish and then do the same thing with the fry's parents.
Furthermore, I second Chuck's entire post.

i don't know who you are having a go at here but aquotix are the ones selling the fish not any of us
i think what seven bar was tryin to say is that nobody knows which are cross and which arn't so we have to be greatful for what we have
i am pretty confident my fish aint crosses but i can't be confident of it

I didnt mean it that way and everything is being taken outta context. Yeah of course If your paying for something like mpimbwe or zaire you would want pure breeds, and buying a 7 bar that isnt crossed with a 6bar. I just meant that burundi's have been crossed with who knows what so many times that I dont care so much anymore. 6bars will stay as 6 bars and 7 bars will stay 7bars, price wise unless they are the bluer variants such as zaire or mpimbwe(but who would know for sure when buying fry). I 'm against all the crossbreeding $#!T or hybrids.
Anyways Anita as you quoting me b4, I meant compared to zaires or mpimbwe or most of the bluer variants that fish does have a massive nuchal hump. I know how big the hump gets on the 7 bars, I have a few massive ones and a old female that resembles a male because of the size of her hump.
And yes bigfish you know where I'm coming from cheers mate
I know not to mention zambia again Edited by: 7BARfrontosa at: 12/30/03 4:24 pm

i mean i am no expert but some of the females looked like burundis but all the males looked a little to mangled and mixed for my liking.
i think most of the burundi i have seen in perth are burundi but there is a few exeptions.
