Hey Guys biggrin.gif

My Royals spawned last night for the first time biggrin.gif

Unfortuately they picked the heater as the spawning site 8O
Anyone had any experience with their fish spawning on heaters or should i just expect hard boiled eggs?

Heres a couple of quick pics.....

Heres the couple late yesterday afternoon hanging out together.

And the male with his clutch of eggs this morning..

Cheers biggrin.gif

Congrats Craig, Nice pics. Can't help with the eggs on heater thing but could be interesting 'discovery' as to why they chose this spot( do the eggs require warmer temp etc) Look forward to seeing/hearing what happens.
Any tell tale signs of how to tell male from female that you've discovered.
cheers

Thanks guys biggrin.gif

Glenn sexing these guys is as easy as sexing common bristlenose where the male will have fine whiskers on both sides of his head and the female doesnt.
I will try and get a shot for you biggrin.gif
Will be interesting to see if i can get any fry from this spawn!!

YAy

Congrats smile.gif

Goodluck with the eggs.

Once they hatch I hear looking after them and getting them to eat something is a pain.

Yep have done my homework on these guys and are up for a challenge biggrin.gif

Also will have to wait for the male to hang off the glass to show you his whiskas as my camera just cant cut it from where hes sitting atm!

I had my Corydoras Sterbai`s spawn in that tank on tuesday night and think maybe the pheromones in the water may have helped also but the female whippy had been hammering the food for a few weeks now and was nice and ripe biggrin.gif

Good job Craig and I like Daniels idea of your writing up a species profile.

Corys are spawning again today 8O

Would like to get experience in raising the fry yet also before i have a crack at writing a species profile so i can write about the whole process biggrin.gif

Thanks for the comments guys, at this stage im inclined to think the eggs are toast so to speak biggrin.gif but there is still a chance to hatch them yet so will just wait and see.

Hey Steve the cory`s are spawning again today after you saw them spawning tuesday night i didnt think they would breed again so quickly!

Cheers biggrin.gif

Congradulation Craig, why not unplug that heater and put another heater in for heating, otherwise they will probably get fried.

I believe that they have been cooked from last night from however many hours before i had seen the eggs that they have been on there.

That being said ive been told from a whiptail breeder over east that his whiptails spawn on his heater also with a decent amount of success.
Anyway im confident that this is only the first of many spawnings so i can refine the process biggrin.gif

Christine and i are already planning for the next spawn biggrin.gif

The difference is the bristles are only on the males cheeks, they dont run up the head like the ancistrus sp. do

Hope that pic helps biggrin.gif

The male is still sitting on the eggs and fanning but has had few lenghty breaks so this will be a good learning experience for him biggrin.gif
