Hi, I have been notified of a power outage for approximately 8 hours one day next month for electrical works in our neighbourhood.
Could you suggest what I should do to my 8ft and two 6ft tanks to save my fish and the beneficial bacteria during this time?
The 8ft is a fresh water tropical community tank using a 5ft sump filter with UVC and the two 6ft tanks are South African Lake Tanganyika fish using canister filters with UVC's.
If you need any other info to help me please ask and I will edit my question.
Many thanks.

I've just been notified that our 6hr outage is next week.
I'm running 15 shed tanks, 7' display indoors with 2 canisters and a 3' planted.
Generator is the only way to go. Coates hire or similar.

Buying a small generator is the best thing to do in the long run. Yes this time it's s scheduled outage, but what when a storm hits and you sit there with 24h+ without power? Good luck trying to hire or buy one then, they'll all be gone in seconds.
A small generator will cost you maybe $300 and you can easily run all your gear from that, plus maybe your fridges too if the genny is strong enough.
It's a small investment compared to losing hundreds if not thousands of dollars worth of fish.

Ok just for everyone’s info and to finish off this post I was lucky to borrow a friends Honda EU10i generator and it did a great job of running 1 x sump pump, 2 x large canisters, 2 x UVC, 3 x heaters and 2 x wave makers, I even had the fridge plugged in! I tried the set up a week before the power went off to make sure it was going to work and I could stop stressing about my fish and filtration etc.
I didn't have the money to buy one at the time but a generator is on my short list of necessary things to have as part of my hobby.
