if people dont support their local fishop they will eventually go under... and then where would you go and look at buying new fish... ???

who cares if it costs you an extra couple bucks for your dry goods.... $2 bucks dont even buy you a beer at the pub... but that $2 will go a long way to supporting your LFS...

There's $2 cheque in the mail for you today mate.....

Thanks for supporting LFS - Ill shout you a beer next time you are in.....

cheers.gif

"When an item can be sourced from overseas for 1/2-2/3 of the price though, possibly saving hundreds of dollars, I do not think it is at all unreasonable for people to take this route - LFS owners and employees have to put food on their tables, but so do we as customers and it's natural that we will go to where we get the best value for money."

Dave
When the item that you saved 100s of Dollars on breaks down take it to City Farmers for repairs. If they can't help take it to your LFS. I garantee they will try to fix it

there is more choice online 1/2 the time at the LFS you get we can order that in for you no thanks ill get it cheaper and quicker my self online. Don't think it's up to the customer to support the LFS but it's up to the LFS to give the customer a reason to go there. Such as service because thats one thing the LFS has that the online store dos not and some LFS service sucks. The range off fish in most LFS is poor as well pretty much same old stuff in every store. washed out yellows YA

LFS are not the only ones that people use to gain info so they can purchase online or from other stores. I have been in retail all my life its a part of the 'game' I am afraid. You either work out what a person is doing, ie, if I do this will you make a commitment etc, or if they are playing you against another.
Unfortunatley online stores are all the go, and can save heaps of dough...recently I went to holden to price a radiator, i wanted an Aust made product, but found out it was made in China, they wanted to charge me 275, I got the same thing from the east from a radiator company delivered to my door for $135. I tried three local guys each with the china brand but more expensive. Likewise with bonnet struts, $55 each at holden made in china, online 35 PAIR delivered to my door, and made in Aussie.
If they are making this sort of markups surely they must wake up to the reality of online shopping many will go broke, the internet is not going away all to soon.

? Dave,if that radiator popped a seem or had a leak next week, would your supplier cover the warranty.(curtisy car, coolant, labour, freight or in some cases a tow truck cost
not to mention possable damaged that could be caused to ones engine due to overheating)I think not.

Hey Doug, if you really believe you would get a warranty from a radiator mob or a mechanical outfit, you must be joking. I have been in the motor industry for to long to even consider that. Even if a mechanic did the repair, they would blame some one else and on it goes. And yes the warranty for the unit is full for 2 years I believe....the company have been around a long time apparently....I do my own repairs, so they would all get out of it some way Doug... I know where you are coming from but I have purchased so much online, and never had a problem, except when i brought some tank heaters, it would cost more to send it back than it was worth, so havnent brought them for a long time....appreciate your concern thanks. the unit has been in for 2 months now never a prob...

Amazing how quickly people bag out stores here in Perth.

If only the stone throwers knew how much time, effort, money and love goes into maintaining a quality store...

The mob has gotten a 'whingey' tone as of late.

Because people have an opinion, we bag stores, that is not the case I and many others are just stating facts, some people need to come into the 21st century and grow with the times...If some have ever manage and operated stores with far greater worth than most lfs, you may begin to understand the move of the times and the need for diversification. Computers came and changed our lives and everyone thought the world was going to collapse, it just gives a greater, much greater scope for all, including stores.
Its comments as above are the whingers....

Probably one of the worst comments I've had the misfortune of reading on this forum.

Firstly. What facts are you stating? If you were in the hobby 10 - 15 years ago and had a walk around all of the shops here in Perth (sponsors included). You would not have seen half the species you now see in stores today, that you take for granted. You see all these new fish because store owners and staff put in the effort and time to bring the public something different and new, and obviously it helps make good business. Saying that it's the same old is pathetic and an insult to store owners and managers that put in a lot of time and effort to bring the public new and exciting things. I've kept a massive variety of rare fish and it always amazes me doing a fish shop run and seeing new fish that I have never seen in the flesh, or have seen very little of.

I'm not sure what you are getting at with the computer comment. It really doesn't have too much relevance.

If you don't like it suck it up, bite your tongue and keep shopping online. Next time you have a problem figure it out yourself, leave LFS workers help people who appreciate their help.

Me personally. I think that the shops here in Perth are doing a great job in just about all aspects. In particular Malaga, Vebas, Midland and Aquotix. Without this core of quality stores in Perth this hobby would suffer, BIG TIME!

Guys... this thread has gone off on a tangent. It's about services being provided which are pretty much non-existant via online stores (I doubt an OLS can remove a tumour from a fish..), you're comparing apples with oranges...

There is always going to be competition in retail and as consumers we weigh up the risks when deciding where to purchase things from. Go down the OLS route, get some price savings along with the risks of fake sellers, getting lost in transport, harder to claim warranty including possible shipping costs etc. Or go down the convenient route of having the ability of walking into a store, seeing the product first hand and in most cases having a knowledgable staff member at hand to answer any queries you have. This is also very handy for emergencies where you can't wait days/weeks for the product to arrive.

When it comes to LFS's and their services they're mostly reliant on sales of product and livestock to generate an income, the service itself is often free and not charged for. Compare this to other professions such as medical, law, IT etc they all charge for their services. If one of my clients calls me, quizzes my brain for 10 minutes and gets the desired result / fix then they can expect a bill for $66.

So if the LFS can't charge directly for their services and you're wanting a brick n mortar shop to walk into, good range of product/livestock and knowledgable specialist staff then expect for the cost of their services to be recouped via sales. Me personally they're the types of things I look for in a good LFS and I continue to support them with my customer loyality as it's been well earned.
