Hi Guys,

I am looking at setting a 3x2x2.5 tank which is around 420l.
I would like to run the filtration through the base and use a canister or 2.
It will be stocked with peacocks.
What do you think is the best option?

Thanks

Peter

HI there,

That size tank shoud only need 1 canister filter... The bigger the better I say.  I would go an aquaone 2700 with UV.. around $250/ $ 300

I always like 2 cannisters, even if they are smaller. That way there is some risk mitigation built in - when you want to clean one out & you are a bit too thorough, or if one breaks down, etc.

Id prefer to run smaller ones, allows for failure of one, no disruption of biological media when cleaning one filter at a time, can be more manipulative of flows etc, just my opinion.

id suggest 2 around 1000lt/hr would be more then enough.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the fast response.

An AquaOne Nautilus 2700 is an option.

If I was to run 2 Eheim 2217 for example, how would you position you inlets and outlets? I would like to try and keep the tank as neat as possible.

Thanks

Peter

I've got a similar size tank and run an eheim 2073 , an Rs 95 cheaper brand canister which pumps out 1200lh and a Powerhead + sponge for purely mechanical filtration I've got inlets and outlets on each side and the sponge in the middle behind some ornaments (rocks and fake plants)

Thanks Chopstick Mike.

Are you running your canisters through bulkheads or over the rim?

I will check out the 2073.

Over the rim i didn't wanna drill any holes so I've tried to hide the inlets behind rocks and plants
U could put both inlets in middle then have a centre piece of scape like a big rock there to completely hide them

Your tank looks great. Everything really pops with the black background.
