Hey guys...

I'm trying to set up 2 new tanks to put my poor oscars in....

The top tank has a refugium and plumbing has already been figured out...

I just don't understand how to put together the bits shown in the photo for the return pipe??

(The o-rings and joints around the holes in the glass is already completed also)

Any help asap would be greatly appreciated!!

Cheers!
Ben

PICS ADDED guys smile.gif Let me know if you can't understand them?)

So does the following look correct?

And I have just not been given the piece to connect the two sections together?

Cheers Steve! (My Oscars love you)

Ben

(I know they havent all been tightened, just in case they are wrong wink.gif )

Cheers guys...

And does the small section stop water from making the sump overflow if power is out?
Should that be on the in or outflow pipe?

Thanks! biggrin.gif

well i thought it was the lower half of the pipe that delivers to the sump...

but it is the one that returns it to the top tank (The pvc tube for the other one is much larger u can see in pic 4 on the left tongue.gif)

Hey man I don't think it really matters which way up you put that pipe it looks like who ever made it just used whatever retic parts they had In the shed could have been made a lot more simple. As for the rest sorry can't really help. Attatch the pipe and the pump to the other end fill it up and see how you go.

cheers bud smile.gif

I've just filled both tanks to the maximum height (i.e no water flowing into the refugium)

So tomorrow morning I'll fix it up...

Any easy way to determine the return pump I'll need?

Thanks!

Not really sure one of the other members could probably help there. I'd say biggest one you can and put a tap in the return hose so you can set the right flow but I may be wrong.

You do know that the setup there is an orsom SILENT overflow setup if you just hang your return over the lip of the tank and have 2 drains. the larger one being the white water (with air) and the smaller one being a black water (no air). All you do is have it so the small one has no riser pvc on it and put a ball valve on the drain line to the sump. now you cut the larger one to set the height of the water level inside of the wier (it has to be lower than the wier lip tho, just not too low or you will have a waterfall). Then all you do is turn the ball valve till water starts trickeling down the white water drain (the standpipe). In my pics i have used a dorso drain instead of the standpipe but you don't need to, i really don't like the sound of water trickling down. Yes there is a ball valve on the side that says siphon. thats the only one i adjust and having a ballvalve on 1 drain with no back up is a very bad idea.

Hey Ben, it looks like 3, 4 and 6 form a quick release fpr the pipe that goes gown into the sump. So that you can either have the water enter at the top of the tank or at the bottom.

This is so confusing biggrin.gif

Thank you all for your help... I still don't understand it though?
So the piece that I finally put together, can that be attached to the return pipe in EITHER direction?

And should I also have one for the "Dorso drain"?

Is there a website I can look at with more details, I'm not good with physics and I'm gonna stuff this up I know it.

Cheers guys

Ben

depends what you want to do. I myself prefer silent overflows so i wouldn't be putting my return through the weir.
