I've converted my FX5 to vinyl tubing (like the clear stuff from Bunnings), however Im having trouble sealing the connection between the hose and the orange inlet tap (the one that connects to the filter itself).

Has anyone had a similar problem? Im considering applying some silicone to it...

Cheers
Craig

Hey Craig,
How's things, what tanks you running now?
I tried to change mine over to normal tubing (not clear) and it worked well, but never felt it was safe, so I went to the original ones.
I always found the Bunnings stuff very weal as well, it always crimped easily.

I have been running one for nearly 4 yrs, I wouldn't use anything else, they are FANTASTIC!
I also have an Ehiem and think they are crapola...Even though it does a good job on a IBC, I prefer the job my FX5 does on the other IBC smile.gif

I think it comes down to a Ford Vs Holden thing, Fluval Vs Ehiem. In saying that, I think the other Fluval range is garbage and wouldn't use them, the little internals aren't bad but I prefer Eheim pick ups, they are sensational. But the best internals IMO are Otto's.
Anyways, I'll end my rant and take over of Craig's thread smile.gif

psssssssssssssssssssst
go the FX5!

I have sold Fluvals since I was working in the industry - retail and wholesale.... as well as the Laguna pond pumps, made by the same mob... so when they put a laguna pond pump onto a fluval bucket, I decided that was it. I have to admit, the first batch of FX5s were duds, but since then, I have not heard much from them... but once bitten (many times) twice shy.
Eheim have had their fair share of issues too... and have been priced out of the market for the last few years (blame the importers for being too greedy), but I am on the lookout for an alternative to both.... Ill expand on that later...

Well what about the Otto canisters? If they make such kickass internal filters, are their canisters any good?

Got hose clamps on it but they aren't helping with the seal.

Ive applied some silicone today. Ill let it cure then report back with results smile.gif

Would this work?

Attaching the rubber connector to the cut hose, then using that rubber connector to attach to the 25mm fitting.

Perhaps some silicone to hold it in place too?

If admin want to split topic, you go gurlfriend wink.gif

I personally dont like the Otto canisters, I find them cheap & nasty. BUT... each to their own. I really like Jebo 815 & 819 canisters, they are fantastic cheapies.. But Im sure others would find them rubbish.

Sorry Craig for hijacking thread wink.gif

Silicone will not hold under the pressure (wont stick to the plastic and rubber properly) best to use a flexible adhesive that is very tacky (Aquotix have something - bring your hoses in and they can glue it for you... saves buying a whole tube)
