Got home from dinner this evening and went to lock the shed. The 6x2x2.5 that I purchased about a month ago "which was full before I left for dinner 2 hours prior when feeding" was completely empty!! Fish gasping for air on the substrate. I quickly scooped them up an threw them in the tank next to it. Those fish seem to be fine. I then picked up my stingray pup an popped him in the sump. He was breathing for a short while, but died shortly after! Looked like the pressure of the water escaping through the bottom and front panels of glass had been to much for him getting pinned rite at the front!

So devestated! Beyond words.... Not like loosing any other fish. Was in pure disbelief looking at him lifeless at the bottom of the sump!!!

Thought I got a bargain of a tank. But obviously a peice of rubbish!

After this iccedent I don't think I will ever have the urge to buy a second hand tank again. Definately not before getting it checked out by an experienced tank builder anyway!!

Yes it is pretty awful! Feel like crap about the whole thing today!

Just went and checked on the other fish, they are all fine. Luckily I found them in time!

I had organised to get a trio FFM with a mate, me keeping the female. It's just lucky I hadn't picked them up and had been in the tank as well! That would have been even more devistating!

About 50% of the silicone pulled away from the middle front. No cracks, glass is still attached to the tank.

Devo to hear about this Johnsy sad.gif Always a gamble with second hand tanks but youd never expect such a catastrophic failure without any warning leaks! I know how it feels to lose super expensive and much loved fish, youll get through it buddy.

Bugger, the price of the stringray would probably buy a brand new tank too!!

Terrible news Sam, second hand just isn't worth it when livestock is worth so much.

Cheers guys. Wasn't really looking for sympathy but thank you.

I'd heard of second hand tanks getting a slow leak, but nothing like this! Thought it looked like a solid tank, obviously my judgement wasn't very good in this case.

Don't care about the money, just the fish. Unfortunately in this case, it was the coolest fish I have owned and really found a love for rays because of that little guy. Hopefully the next ones are as active and have as much character.

Most likely will be selling a few others in the collection to get another male to go with the female I have organised. Most other fish have become boring after having one of these guys.

Next tank will definately be a brand spanker!

I like your spirit mate. I know it's tough when ya lose something you have grown to love. Nice work on planning to jump back on the horse. I've sworn off fish once before, I think that lasted about 4 and a half minutes!

Getting another hybrid or pure?

Will be looking at a pair of Motoro pups soon and making a decision Alex.

I had over $1000 worth of Africans die misteriously over night a couple of years back. That's got nothing on this loss!!

Sucks. But what's done is done.

Always get tanks built with strapping all round, top, bottom and sides. It's always the best ones that die, bugger.
