whereas I have an eheim as well as an eheim knock off (asian version) running on my tank, and have had dramas with the eheim but not the chinese canister. 

i even clean the impeller and check the seal, as well as clean the media on the eheim more than the chinese one, but still have dramas with the eheim

I only have 2 canisters 1 is an eheim classic i bought new and has run flawlessly the other is a second hand aqua one aquis 1000 which was way short of bio media... I bought some extra noodles it is now as good as anything.
They are a simple enough contraption. I opt for filters with less gadgets and gizmos... cant go wrong.
